TRACK & FIELD - SAC HS DRAGONS COMPLETE SUPERB 2010 SEASON

The Sacramento High School Dragons had seven (7) of its student-athletes compete at the Sac Joaquin Section (SJS) Masters Meet and they went there with the intent on making a loud and grandiose announcement - “Sac High Track & Field is here!”

The participants – Ashley Owens, Will Davis, Tori Mason, Brittany Shine, Ashjanee’ Woods, Fantasia Hilliard and Monea Stribling were very focused as a team on placing as a top three (3) podium awardee in either the high jump, 100 high hurdles, 300 intermediate hurdles, 400/1600 relays and thereby qualifying to compete in the 2010 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Championships.

Each student-athlete performed quite well as some of them even recorded personal best.  However, in spite of the various high jump attempts made, leaps over the hurdle bar, and the passing of the baton in the relays, the athletes aspirations to participate as state qualifiers and continue their 2010 season came to a halt at the SJS Masters Meet.

Will Davis, the 6-foot-8 senior, who is considering a basketball scholarship to prep school, tied for 6^th place in the high jump.  The girls team of Fantasia Hilliard, Tori Mason, Ashjanee’ Woods and Brittany Shine placed 15^th in the 400 meter relay.  Next, the girl team of Fantasia Hilliard, Tori Mason, Brittany Shine and Monea Stribling placed 12^th in the 1600 meter relay.  Super sophomore Ashley Owens tied for 7^th in the high jump, while team Captain Tori Mason ran well in both the 100 meter hurdles (placing 10^th) and the 300 meter hurdles (placing 5^th).

Fortunately, the 2010 CoEd team has set the tone for higher expectations for the Sac High T&F program in the years to come.  With Tori Mason, Ashjanee’ Woods, Monea Stribling, Ashley Owens, Lanisha Smart, Jenile Fleming, Tashee’ Woods, and Alicia Pitts being listed as varsity girl returnees - we expect great things from them in 2011.

We’re just as fortunate to have a few returnees on the varsity boys team to include Kamiron Belton, Steven Cristo, and Kenny Hazewood.  As well, our freshman/sophomore boys team consisting of DeVon Boyd, Brian Burrage, Ken Hazewood, Yoon Teurn, Deontae Whiteside and Deoundray Whiteside are expected to return in 2011.

Known as the small team that does big things, we expect that our fantastic group of student-athletes will continue their superb performances in 2011.
